Today we turn the spotlight on Robyn Starnes. Robyn quickly became a tremendous asset to the entire team at Roland Technology Group.
What do you do here at Roland Technology Group?
I’m part of the sales team at Roland Tech. I’m the one that gets to sit down (or Zoom!) with companies, learn about their IT troubles and figure out ways to save them money while offering the best support possible. It makes my day when I hear from our clients that they’ve been able to grow their business since they started working with us because they no longer have to worry about their IT. I love those phone calls.
Describe Roland in three words…
Welcoming. Innovative. Supportive!
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a doctor (until I realized that the human body is pretty slimy on the inside) or a truck driver – I think I just wanted people to wave at me on the road!
What’s the most challenging thing about your job?
Trying to get organizations to understand that our support model really IS all-inclusive. So many times, people think there has to be some sort of “gotcha” down the road because they’ve experienced that with other companies. Once they realize that we mean what we say, it’s really fun to say “yes, that’s included” to all the projects and questions they have. Someone once sent me a list of 30 different situations thinking he’d finally get to the “gotcha.” It was great to reply to every situation with “$0 additional!”
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Being the first person in my family to graduate with a 4-year college degree.
What do you think is the most important quality necessary for success?
Persistence, listening and creativity. The right answer may not always be the one that is staring you in the face, but if you keep asking questions, you’ll have a better chance of coming up with the right solution that works for everyone.
What do you like most about Roland?
Personally, I love that everyone at Roland is so incredibly supportive of each other and their goals. Last year, I asked if I could sign the company up for a clothing drive. Not only did we sign up, but everyone here pitched in and we collected several car loads of clothing! Professionally, I love knowing that I’m not going to promise something to a client and then not be able to deliver on that promise. Accountability is huge here, and it starts from the top. We all know we’re part of the same team.
What do you like to do in your spare time? / What are your hobbies?
I’ve been boxing for the past 2 years, so you don’t want to meet me in a dark alley! I’m also big on entertaining at my home – it’s how I show people that I care about them. I’ve always been a reader, but Covid has really amp’d that up, and I’m working my way through the Harry Potter series now – why didn’t anyone ever tell me how good this series was!?
Where are you going on your next vacation?
Fingers crossed and positive thoughts, I’ll be heading to Mexico in November to see a couple of my dearest friends get married.
What’s your top life hack?
If you’re planning a big life change, my mom always taught me that “there’s nothing in life that’s ever done that can’t be undone.” It had gotten me out of countless analysis-paralysis situations over the years. She also taught me to make extra stuffing and bake it in muffin tins so that everyone get crispy stuffing on Thanksgiving. She calls them “stuffin’ muffins” and that might be the best advice I’ve ever gotten…from anyone!
